PureCHAR

As the name suggests, our PureCHAR is made of pure biochar and works especially well in the livestock industry to help eliminate ammonia from the soil.

EarthCHAR

Metzler EarthCHAR has locally screened topsoil along with GrowCHAR compost and PureCHAR. It’s ideal for raised bed gardens and planters that need soil.

GrowCHAR

GrowCHAR is our signature compost made with PureCHAR, local green waste and wood fines, a nitrogen fixer, and a spent mushroom substrate. Gardens and farms benefit greatly from this kind of biochar.

How much biochar do I need?

Mix about 15% biochar into your favorite compost and let it sit for a few weeks to work its magic, or add 10% biochar while making compost from scratch. Some local gardeners have had great success by blending 25% biochar-enriched compost into their soil—giving their plants an extra boost.

For direct soil application, we recommend using 1/4 cubic yard per acre per year to improve your soil over time gradually.

You can start with 1 cubic yard per acre and see how it responds—you can always add more later for even better results. Another option is to go for a one-time application of 4 cubic yards per acre and take things to the next level quickly.

Metzler PureCHAR Dust and Chip biochar are both appropriate for addition to compost.

Metzler PureCHAR Chip is best for direct soil application because the larger particles stay in place better for tilling into soil.

Biochar is always most effective when in the plant root zone.
